About Should I Quit Now?
A free, honest, privacy-first retirement calculator — built for the average person who just wants a straight answer to the most important financial question of their life.
Why we built this
Most retirement calculators are either buried inside brokerage websites (pushing you toward their products), oversimplified (one slider, one number), or so complex you need a finance degree to use them.
We wanted something different: a tool that treats you like an intelligent adult, shows you the real math behind your retirement, explains every number in plain English, and doesn't ask for your email, sell you anything, or store your data.
The result is Should I Quit Now? — a free, open, browser-based retirement planner that updates every chart the moment you move a slider.
What makes it different
100% Private
All calculations run in your browser. Nothing is ever sent to a server. No login required.
Sensitivity Bands
Every chart shows ±1–2% return and inflation scenarios — because the future isn't a single line.
Works Everywhere
Generic mode uses universal investment math — no US-specific rules — so anyone in the world can use it.
Plain English
Every label, tooltip, and chart explanation written for the average person — no finance jargon without explanation.
2025 Data
Updated with 2025 Social Security bend points, FRA rules, 401k/IRA limits, and Medicare eligibility age.
Mobile-First
Fully responsive with a slide-up input drawer on mobile — everything works perfectly on your phone.
How the calculations work
The core engine is built on well-established financial planning principles:
- Compound growth: Year-by-year simulation of each account (401k, IRA, taxable) using your contribution rate and expected return.
- 4% Safe Withdrawal Rate: Based on Bengen (1994) — 4% of your portfolio per year, adjusted for inflation, historically lasts 30+ years.
- Social Security bend points: Actual 2025 AIME bend points ($1,174 / $7,078) for PIA calculation. FRA based on birth year.
- Portfolio longevity: Month-by-month simulation of how long your nest egg survives under your monthly draw and inflation rate.
- Sensitivity analysis: Every chart shows ±1% and ±2% return or inflation scenarios using parallel calculations.
This is a planning tool, not financial advice. For complex situations — business ownership, pensions, international assets — consult a licensed Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
